Lake Acigami (Lago Roca): Tierra del Fuego National Park

Yes. Lago Roca is the older name, still used on many maps, signs and tour listings. The national parks service now calls it Lago Acigami, or Acigami/Roca. If a guide, a minibus driver or a trail sign mentions Lago Roca, it is the same lake. It is one of the three main stops on a standard park tour, with Ensenada Zaratiegui and Lapataia Bay, and most tours spend about 30 minutes there.

Park minibuses leave Ushuaia from the corner of Av. Maipú and Juana Fadul. Ask when you buy your seat where they stop inside the park and when the last bus returns. The parks service describes the minibuses from town but no separate shuttle between the stops inside the park. The sites are spread along the park road, so most people move between them by tour van or their own car. On foot, the Senda Costera links Ensenada Zaratiegui with the junction of Route 3 and Lago Roca: 8 km, about 4 hours, medium difficulty, open November to April only.

Tierra del Fuego National Park is open 8:00 to 21:00 from December to February, 8:00 to 20:00 in March, October and November, and 9:00 to 18:00 from April to September. The cafeteria and restaurant at the Alakush visitor centre open daily from 10:00 to 17:30. Entry to the park is ARS 40,000 per foreign visitor since 1 June 2026, so ARS 80,000 for two. Argentine residents pay ARS 18,000 and children aged 0 to 6 enter free. The park's campsites run from November to April and close for the winter. Current details for a campsite at the lake, including bookings and prices, are best checked directly with the national parks service before you travel, especially if you plan to go within the next week or two. Remember that the entry fee applies on top of any camping charge, and that a second day within 72 hours is half price on tickets bought online.

Two of the park's longer trails connect with this part of the park. The Senda Costera, 8 km and about 4 hours, ends at the junction of Route 3 and Lago Roca after following the coast from Ensenada Zaratiegui. The parks service also lists Hito XXIV, 3.5 km each way. The parks service does not ask for a four-wheel drive, and there are car parks at the entrance, Río Pipo, Ensenada Zaratiegui, Alakush, Lago Acigami and Bahía Lapataia. The speed limit inside the park is 40 km/h. In winter, snow tyres or chains are required, so ask your rental company about them if you visit between May and September.

The train ends at Estación Parque Nacional, inside the park. Riders who stay can explore on their own by tour bus, minibus or car, and in spring and summer can return on a later train (16:00) if there is space. Five hours is the length of a standard guided tour, which covers Ensenada Zaratiegui, Lake Acigami and Lapataia Bay with short walks and, on some tours, a break at the Alakush visitor centre. With six hours on your own between November and April, you could walk the Senda Costera from Ensenada to the Lago Roca junction, about 4 hours, and then drive or ride on to Lapataia for the end-of-the-road sign.

A tour is easier if you have no car: pickup at your hotel, a guide, and the three main stops in about five hours, from $50 per person on the featured tour. On your own you set the pace and can walk the longer trails in summer, but you arrange transport and buy the park ticket yourself.
