Tierra del Fuego National Park starts about 11 km west of Ushuaia, and the easiest way there is a half-day tour that picks you up at your accommodation, spends around three hours in the park and brings you back about five hours later. How far is the park from Ushuaia?

Closer than most people expect. Everything lies west of town along Route 3:

The train station sits outside the park, 1 km before the entrance. That is why many tours stop there first. On a tour the drive out takes about 30 minutes on the best-overall pick. Some listings allow 45 minutes, because the van also collects other passengers around town.

Pickup and drop-off

Almost every standard park tour includes pickup at your hotel or rental in Ushuaia. The operator usually confirms the time the day before, often by message, so give a phone number you will check. Drop-off varies more than pickup:

If you are arriving by ship, check the listing before you book. Several hotel-pickup tours do not accept in-transit cruise passengers. The morning tour’s train option, for example, is available with hotel pickup only. The shore excursions page lists tours that meet you at the port.

The half-day format and departure times

A standard tour from Ushuaia runs 4.5 to 6 hours from pickup to drop-off, which leaves the rest of the day free. Most listings show their exact start times only in the booking calendar. The National Park Morning Tour, Train or Boat Option (our breakdown →) is sold as a morning departure, from $43. The lunch tour collects you around 8 am and has you back around 2:30 pm. Some operators also list separate morning and afternoon slots. If you want an afternoon tour, check the calendar for the date you need.

In winter the park opens later (9:00 to 18:00 from April to September). Snow tyres or chains are generally required on the park roads in winter, and park tours keep running through the season.

Which stops are normally included

A standard half day covers the same three places, with short walks at each:

1. Ensenada Zaratiegui, a cove on the Beagle Channel. The End of the World Post Office here is often closed, so don’t plan on a postcard. Operators say the road down to the cove closes in winter, and the stop is then dropped or swapped.
2. Lake Acigami (formerly Lake Roca), a glacial lake with a shoreline walk and views toward the Chilean border.
3. Lapataia Bay, where Route 3 ends at its well-known sign.

Many tours add a break at the Alakush visitor center, which has a café, and some add the beaver dam walk or the Río Pipo valley.

Is the train included?

Usually only as an option. On the best-overall pick the standard option cost $58 and the “With train included” option $124 for one adult on 8 October 2026 (checked September 2026). With the train you board at the station outside the park, ride into the park and meet your van at the park station. Without it, the van drives straight in. Is the park entrance fee included?

Almost never. Foreign visitors pay ARS 40,000 per person (since 1 June 2026), and children up to 6 go free. You can buy the ticket online from the national parks service or at the gate. A second day within 72 hours is half price, but only on online tickets. Two Viator alternatives

The Tierra del Fuego National Park, Small Groups, Optional Train comes from the same operator as our pick, with small groups and pickup at your accommodation, from $54 per person and rated 4.9 from 134 reviews on Viator. The listing says it operates from June to October, so check dates later in the season. The Tierra del Fuego National Park tour by Best Tour Patagonia (from $83, 4.9 from 77 reviews) runs about five hours with hotel pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle. Neither includes park entry.

Going on your own

A tour is not the only way. Park minibuses leave from the corner of Avenida Maipú and Juana Fadul, and you can drive a rental car in. The park has six car parks, including at Alakush, Lake Acigami and Lapataia Bay, and a 40 km/h speed limit. Taxis also run to the train station.
